My body - What is Louis made up of?

I want to say Tonkatsu (fried pork chop), but apparently I made out of 79.91% lean body mass and 20.09% body fat. That translate to 160.39 lbs in lean body mass and 40.31 lbs in body fat, which equal to a grand total of 200.7 lbs.

The 200 lbs me

On Jan 11, 2012 I went to Fitness Wave to get a hydrostatic body composition analysis.  I also measured my metabolic rate just to get an idea of how much I burn.  I figure it will be good way to track my progress and I can retake the test 2 weeks prior to Angeles Crest 100.  And of course, this also give me something to write about =)

You first measure your height and weight. Then you get dunked into a pool and get your weight measure there. From the weight difference the lab can calculate your body fat %.  And if anything, I now know that I am 5'11 not 5'10 LOL!!!

The dunk tank

This is a summary of my result.

It's good to know that I have 20% of body fat instead of 24% from the high tech Tanita BC-1000 scale.  This also tell me I have some work to do.  With my new eating habit and exercise, the fat will come off gradually.  At of right now I don't want to put too much restriction and set goals because while they can keep me in check they can also break my habit.  A habit takes 21 days to develop. I'll follow my no red meat/bacon/fried chicken/fries/soda diet for a month first before I take the next step.  I am going to set my foundation first, then I'll make it more efficient. You can think of it as building a good running base before starting speed workout.

From reading my result, I also get some interesting data such as how much calories I will burn on different exercise.  It seems like running and hiking give me the bang for the buck!  I may pick up Judo or Step Aerobics in the near future just to mix things up a little bit =P

The biggest finding came when I realized the goal I set a little 2 months ago is not realistic after reading my result.

a chart to tell me what weight and body fat % if I were to just lose fat

Few years ago I got on a diet and I was able to get down to around 180 lbs so I set a goal to get down to 180 by late February.  Looking at this chart, I know I cannot make it.  I forgot the fact that over the year I gained a lot of muscle.  When I was 180lbs a few years back I probably had 16-17% bodyfat.  And if I look at this chart now, 16% bodyfat will put me at 190 lbs if I maintain my muscle.  You guys are already losing the no steak Louis, do you really want to see as a carrot stick Louis? No I don't think so =)

I also did this other test to measure my Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR).  Basically you do like a 12 minutes breath test to calculate your RMR. It give you a sense of how Darth Vader breath.

This test basically tell me I burn around 3609 calories per day and if I want to lose weight I should eat anywhere between 2028 - 2534.  Again, I see this as a guideline. I AM eating better than before, let's work on it one step at a time =)
